WAIVERS

Before stepping on our boats, you MUST read, fill out, and sign a waiver form.  Bring the signed waiver form to the practice site.
Website for waiver:

http://bayareadragons.org/downloads/2010_BAD_USDBFclubWaiver.pdf.

Allow three hours for practice (1/2 hour set-up, 1-1/2 water time, 1/2 hour cool down/stretches, 1/2 hour to stow equipment).

What to wear and bring to practice: Clothes that can get wet and dry quickly (remember, cotton does not dry quickly); either shorts or long pants are okay. Footwear (your feet will get wet!) - water shoes, flip-flops, Tevas. Sunglasses—with a keeper so they don’t fall off. Hat with brim, preferably that can tie under your neck. No rings (they can fall off). Gloves (bicycle, garden, paddling) to protect your hands. (Many people paddle without gloves, so don’t worry if you don’t have any.) Garden kneeling pad to sit on (the wood benches make for a sore bottom!). A towel. Water bottle.

Sunscreen * Sunscreen * Sunscreen.

Life vests (also known as Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) and paddles are provided at the practice site.

SUN DAMAGE WARNING!
If you spend time in the sun, like we dragon-boaters do, it is highly advisable to use sunscreen and sun-protective lip balm as part of a sun protection package that also includes adequate clothing, a hat and UV (ultraviolet) blocking sunglasses.  Use them even if it's cloudy, as clouds don't block much of the sun's harmful UV rays

Some of today's sunscreens can provide "broad spectrum" protection against two ranges of ultraviolet radiation that can damage skin:  UVA and UVB.  Look for products that have a high SPF (sun protection factor).  SPF is a standardized measure of how well a sunscreen blocks UVB rays.  (There is currently no standard in the U.S. for measuring UVA protection, so read the label)..

Apply sunscreen liberally and often, as often as every two hours, or even sooner if it's washed, wiped or sweated off.

The website of the Skin Cancer Foundation has an informative section on sunscreen:http://www.skincancer..org/Sunscreen/
